STOP DOWRYMONGERING
UN Women
Across the subcontinent, forced dowry involves the groom's family coercing the bride's family to pay for material goods — and when demands aren’t met, women suffer beatings, suicide, even murder. In Pakistan, this abuse cuts across every social class, and laws have so far failed to stop it. UN Women reclaimed the narrative: naming the crime “Jahezkhori” (Dowrymongering) to strip away any veneer of tradition and shame those who profit from it. Using the powerful symbol of henna-decorated hands raised in a "Stop" gesture, they spread the message, calling for an end to this abusive tradition.
